Netscape Messenger IMAP Configuration

Introduction

This document will walk you through the setup of Netscape Messenger for IMAP on the UConn Network.

IMAP Configuration

Follow these instructions to correctly configure your IMAP mail client for use with the University of Connecticut Huskymail system. Please note, all thumbnails will open in a new window if you are setting this up on the UConn Network.

1. Open Netscape Messenger.
   
   
2. Go to the Edit Menu, and then to Preferences. Click on Mail Servers under Category.
   
   
3. For Outgoing Mail Server, type smtp.uconn.edu.
       Just to note, the Outgoing Mail Server is completely dependent on your Internet Service Provider. Only use     smtp.uconn.edu if you are on campus. For other SMTP servers, please contact your ISP.

4. Click on the button.
   
   
5. This will bring up the Mail Server Properties box for Netscape Messenger. It will give the following screen:

6. Enter in huskymail.uconn.edu as the server name.
   
   
7. Ensure that IMAP Server is selected next to Server Type.
   
   
8. Fill in your Net ID in the User Name box. If you do not know this information, please go to the NetID Web Page, Find your NetID, and Set your Password.
   
   
9. Check the box next to Remember password.
   
   
10. Click on the tab at the top. Check the box next to Use secure connection (SSL).

11. Click on the button . This will bring you back to the Preferences menu.
    
    
12. You should see the recently completed Huskymail Account now in the list.

13. Click on Identity under Category.
    
    
14. Enter your name as you wish it to appear.
    
    
15. Enter your E-mail Address. This can either be your personal alias (helpdesk@uconn.edu) or your Huskymail account (help.desk@huskymail.uconn.edu).
    
    
16. Enter your Reply-to address only if it is different than the email address you just entered.

17. Click on the button . This will close the Preferences menu.
    
    
18. You are now configured for IMAP in Netscape Messenger. You may check your mail without using a Web browser.
